How To Measure Your Laundry Room

Planning a laundry renovation or upgrade starts with accurate measurements, before you order cabinets, choose appliances, or finalise your layout. Knowing the precise dimensions of your laundry space helps you avoid costly mistakes, makes installation smoother and ensures everything fits perfectly, from your washing machine to your cabinetry and storage solutions. Follow this step-by-step guide to confidently measure your laundry room like a pro.

Start with the Overall Room Dimensions

Begin by measuring the entire laundry room. Record the length and width from wall to wall, noting any alcoves or recesses. Then measure floor to ceiling height, especially if you plan to install tall cabinets or wall storage. These overall room dimensions are the foundation of your layout and ensure your design fits the space.

Map Doors, Windows & Obstructions

Next, map out all doors, windows, skirting boards, vents and fixed features. Measure how far each is from adjacent walls and the floor. Doors and windows can influence where cabinets and appliances are placed, so noting their size and clearance is critical for avoiding clashes during installation.

Measure Appliances & Utility Points

Your washing machine, dryer, sink and any laundry tub need space too. Measure the width, depth and height of each appliance, plus the distances between them and nearby walls.
